It's been a while since I dug up a new tree-inspired bookcase, and in this season where the Christmas tree is so prominent, I thought it a perfect time to feature one. This is designer Maria Yasko's Icelandic Tree, a modular piece made of corian that's part of her Vjunok line. It's not as literal as some of the shelving we've seen — in fact, were it not for the tree painted behind the shelving, some people might not catch the resemblance at all. But it's refreshing to see a tree-inspired design that dispenses with straight lines and angular branches, since trees aren't rigid and static — they bend and sweep and move, and Yasko manages to capture some of that movement in the curves of the shelves.
You can view more of Yasko's work here.
