Booklicious: Thanks, Santa and Friends!

The bottom four books are Christmas presents from friends and family, the rest are presents from me to me, courtesy of the Borders that is going out of business on Michigan Avenue. (It's very sad, and the atmosphere of a closing-down bookstore is beyond depressing. If you're looking for some cheap post-Christmas reading, though, you should stop by - Michael and I nabbed 12 books for $10. Also, all the fixtures - tables, bookcases, shelves - are for sale at rock-bottom prices, if you need book storage.)

All in all, I'm pretty pleased with my haul. Got some fiction, some humor, a hefty dose of biography and some general nonfiction. What about you guys?

Surprisingly, I got only one book, the new Oxford classics edition of A Christmas Carol and other Christmas Stories, but I did also get a gift certificate for the indie where I work.

That bottom book looks good. I'm going to look it up on amazon and add it to my wishlist there if I like it!

A store closing is horrible. I used to work in a Chapters that I helped open but which closed maybe 5 years later or something. When Reisman took over Chapters, a lot of the furniture was put up for auction because she didn't want people relaxing as much as browsing, of course. I'm sitting right now on one of the pieces I got, a couch for $7, with my feet up on the coffee table ($2), and my tea on the matching side table ($5). Across from me sit two blue armchairs, one was $75, the other $50. I've had them since about 2001. :)

Weird. Couldn't find British Tradition on amazon.ca!

Here it is: http://www.amazon.ca/British-Tradition-Interior-Design-Langenscheidt/dp/0841601658/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1293668500&sr=8-1

The whole title is British Tradition and Interior Design, so that's probably why it didn't pop up at first.

Your living room sounds fantastic! Not the best circumstances in which to acquire furniture, but it's neat that the items have become conversation pieces.
