The summer streak of book-to-movie adaptations is set to continue, with August offering book+movie lovers everything from a comic book adaptation to an intellectual crime thriller to an anime-styled fantasy. And, of course, Julia Roberts' marketing behemoth, Eat, Pray, Love. Here's a roundup of some of the movies vying for your attention.


Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, starring Michael Cera and based on the comic book series. In theaters August 13.


Tales from Earthsea, dubbed with the voices of Timothy Dalton, Mariska Hargitay and Willem Dafoe. Based on Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea Cycle. In theaters August 13.


Eat, Pray, Love, starring Julia Roberts and Javier Bardem, based on Elizabeth Gilbert's novel of the same name. In theaters August 13.


The Oxford Murders, starring Elijah Wood and John Hurt, based on the book by Guillermo Martinez. In theaters August 6.


Mao's Last Dancer, starring Bruce Greenwood, Kyle MacLachlan and Joan Chen. Based on the autobiography by Li Cunxin. In theaters August 6.

I noticed that you link to the young readers edition of Mao's Last Dancer. There is also an edition for adult readers:

Oh, I'm glad you mentioned that - I meant to link to the adult edition (the linking tool I use doesn't offer much information about the edition when you link to it, so I assumed it was the right one). Thanks!
