I was idly wandering through Borders the other day, trying to distance myself from the embarrassingly nerdy sci-fi books my husband was browsing, when I stumbled upon a veritable goldmine of blog material. I took hurried photos with my phone, hoping they'd be adequate, but alas, a combination of low light and blurriness resulting from my stifled laughter made the photos unusable. I had no choice but to go back with a real camera a few days later and try to take more photos without anyone noticing - or judging.
Here's a taste:
Romance novels have really changed since the last time I looked at them. (Admittedly, that was about 15 years ago, when I flipped through one I found in my grandmother's guest room.) Apparently, the romance label is not enough anymore, so subsets within the genre have been created:
Still can't make up your mind? Don't worry - additional sub-genres will help you decide:
Want even more romance? Then here's the sub-sub-genre for you:
And, if you're an adventurous, sporty type of gal:
I don't even know what to say. Really, I've got nothing for this one. Take a look at the books, though:
Oh. Baby. Be still my heart. Don't you just love the Superman undertones?
A leather jacket and a car engine? Looks like someone's been watching too much Grease. Craving something a little more outdoorsy?
Sticking with the "Intrigue" theme:
Mmm, hunky. I like the hint of werewolf. No idea what "Maximum men" means, though.
But if you prefer career-minded leading men:
For the gold-digging romance reader.
For the single mother romance reader. Also, it looks like these books are also divided by region - this looks to be part of the Atlanta Heroes series. Does this mean the other servicemen also get their own secret babies?
For the Cinderella romance reader.
See? How could I not share this? If you want to experience it for yourself, the endcap is in downstairs level of the Borders on Michigan Avenue, opposite Water Tower Place in Chicago.

If you are knew to the romance world (it sounds as if you are) and especially to romance blogging, check out Smart Bitches, Trashy Books (http://smartbitchestrashybooks.com/). I'm sure you will find a treasure-trove of blog ideas, plenty of covers to keep you giggling, and book reviews of the fantastic (and not so fantastic) books available in the romance world. The bloggers at SBTB are hilarious and really know what they are talking about. So stop pretending you don't like romance and join the masses.
Those titles are hilarious - and I had no idea there were so many subcategories! Though if I got a romance book, then found out about superromance, I'd feel so gypped!
My husband's favorite was "Billionaires and Babies"; he wanted me to post it on here, but I had to limit them. There were so many gems.
Sorry, Elizabeth - I'm really not a modern romance reader; I go to classic Gothic fiction for my melodrama fix. :) I have checked out SBTB before though; it's a surprisingly intelligent operation considering the genre's stereotype.
WOW! I can only imagine what's on the inside :P thanks for the giggles
NASCAR romance novels? I am dying, dying, dying of laughter!
