In 2007, Fine Clonier ran a contest that invited people to create historical figures out of Legos, but it wasn't until 2011 that I finally discovered them! They're all pretty fabulous, but I gravitated to the literary figures, naturally. Incidentally, the Mark Twain design above was the overall contest winner. Pretty deserved, I'd say - that hair is spectacular. You can browse all the entries here, and there are more Lego writers after the jump!

Unfortunately, no - this was an amateur contest, so regular people just tweaked already existing Lego figures to create these new characters.
That's too bad. Thank you for your response.
